GRADE 8 AWARDS

Valedictorian

The Valedictorian will represent the student body at the Graduation Ceremony by addressing those gathered at the ceremony. The recipient will receive a plaque to be presented at graduation. Some of the requirements are:

• Has the highest achievement in the graduating class

• Displays good social skills

• Participates in class and in school activities

• Displays a positive attitude and Christian values

• Follows school code of behaviour

• Cooperates with fellow students and staff

• Demonstrates compassion and kindness towards fellow students

Four Way Award

The "Four Way Award" is sponsored by the Amprior Rotary Club and is presented to two graduates. Students interested in this award will be asked to submit a letter that describes school and community involvement. It is based on:

• Student school spirit

• Good citizenship

• Volunteer activities in a variety of areas: for example, in student's parish, hospitals, nursing home, service clubs, etc ......

• Displays pro social skills

Academic Award

The Academic Award recognizes four students. It is presented to those students who have achieved the highest academic average for the year, in the following subject areas: English, Mathematics, French, Geography, History, Science and Technology. These awards are sponsored by the Lion's and Optimist Clubs.

Lisa Francis-Parent Memorial Award

This award recognizes academic standing, extra curricular activities and good citizenship. Some of the criteria required are:

Helps fellow students involved in many aspects of school life (i.e. sports, music, arts, etc..) Is kind, conscientious, caring, responsible and community minded Volunteers in community Displays a positive attitude Puts forth a consistent effort in all areas

Most Improved Student Award

This award will be presented to the student who has shown the most improvement over their grade 8 school year.

Joan Bond Award

This award will be presented to the student who has demonstrated consistent effort and perseverance in their studies.

Honour Roll

This recognition is presented to students who achieve an overall average of 80% over three terms when totaling all core subjects and with a minimum average of 75% over the three terms in each core subject. The core subjects are: English, Mathematics, French, Geography, History, Science and Technology. If a student did not achieve Honour Roll status in the first term, it is still attainable in the second and third terms.
